was looking forward to graduation run today - and promised myself a gentle pace just to enjoy running
I wonder if its because I had not really had enough sleep - but my legs felt really heavy. I wasn't breathless or anything so just plodded on - so far so good and i was enjoying it but not quite the carefree run i had hoped for.
The about half way - the return of the pain at the bottom of the calf (well actually i think its the top of the achilles tendon rather than the actual calf muscle or where they join !) ouch! I slowed right down , moved onto the grass verge when i could and tried to vary my gait. But no way was I stopping ! It eased a bit about the 20 min mark but still was no fun !
I persevered running gently and continuing to vary how my foot fell. I was so glad when Laura said 30 mins was up . But I did it . I got there. But slowly and still actually running (thoughit felt not much faster than walking )
I was even more glad that as i got to the end of the walk a bit of rain started up and then just as I arrived there the most COLOSSAL downpour ! Well at least I times something right.
Anyway - I my calf/tendon needs a bit more recovery but I'm looking forward to more running adventures .

Well done you 😁 congrats on the graduation run!! 🏆🏆🏆
Heavy legs can be symptomatic of poor hydration. As a runner you need to drink a minimum of 2.5 -3 litres of fluid each and every day, running or not, as mentioned in the guide.
Stretching immediately after every run, nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h... while muscles are still warm and supple, pulls out contractions, avoiding carrying tensions into the next run and also improves recovery by improving blood flow, as recommended in the guide to the plan.
Many people do not hold their stretches for long enough or put enough effort in. Hold post run stretches for 30 seconds and make sure the pull is strong enough to be on the verge of discomfort.
Congratulations on completing C25K. Sounds like you didn’t enjoy that last run at all. But the positive is that you did it and got to end. Massive achievement. Be proud 👏👏👏😃
