I was really enjoying getting in to running and had been going at a slow pace easing myself into it but this week started to get a tinge in my foot. By the end of this weeks runs, I am in quite a lot of pain in both my heels making it difficult to even walk around the house.
From reading the forums I figured out it probably had to do with my shoes. I got going on C25K with the kit I had and the shoes were old and cheap.
Have now invested in some proper running shoes, gait analysis and all, but have not seen others suffering from an injury like this so early on.
Any advice on how long to pause the programme for before getting going again? Or if I should repeat a week after a break before progressing to week 4?
Am gutted this has happened and feel it could have been avoided by having proper shoes from the start!

Hi there. I had painful Achilles from the end of week 1. I go to a sports massage person for my back, she happens to be a runner also. I explained the pain and she worked on it for me. She did how important a good pair of trainers was, mine were over 10 yrs old, also gave me some exercises to do... write my name in full with my feet to extend the range and movement. I also went out and had a gait analysis and bought a new pair of trainers, which are much more supporting. After another two runs ( some niggles) I can now say I don’t have any pain 😃. I still continue with my exercises and also stretch after my runs. Hope this helps. I never restarted as I always completed my runs.
I too started this quest with very woeful old runnIng shoes and got an injury immediately in my ankles. My friend (a runner and fitness instructor) told me to immediately get some decent footwear. I bought the recommended trainers, waited 2 weeks to heal my sore ankle(s) and repeated the entire week again to great effect. I’m only just starting week 5 but those trainers definitely help me, 100%.
I wish you well with your recovery. Be careful with achilles problems, take it slow and look up stretches etc to ensure they don’t get too tight.
