Recovery Walk (no snails were injured......)

So today I had a nice jaunty strut along my usual jogging route, kept my heart rate consistently in the 137 and below range so happy that I wasn’t working too hard, did the exact same route

Yet burned roughly the same Cals? What is that all about?

Oh and I saw sammy the snail on the pavement and safely avoided him........😄

There are a lot of snails about on the country lanes round here. Only worry when they overtake!! As for calories, it’s the distance that counts.

Hahaha x yes! My dog embarrassed me as he’s still trotting happily along and I’m at my finish lol x

Same here slowpoke- and one of them is a mini schnauzer!

in reply to MrsSchnauzerSmith

Haha! Brilliant x I get my own back by walking him until he’s panting and then I’m like there you go! I was there an hour ago mate lol x

Today we are panting and looking for shade!

My two greyhounds are both 13, so our walks are now exercises in stop and sniff rather than exercise! But in their youth I still couldn't have run with them as their crazy fast twitch muscles wouldn't let them go at my pace! I doubt I could manage 40 mph...🤣

in reply to Scout37

Oh I never thought of that! I must be really frustrating the dog with my slow pace eh? Poor bugger! I do make sure he’s off the lead for a portion of our runs though, I’m not a monster haha

I give up on trying to understand heart rate and calories. My recorded heart rate never seems to be much above 110, which can't possibly be the case.

I've come to the conclusion that if I'm alive, my heart is beating. And if I'm moving, I'm burning calories to one extent or another.

As for the rest, it's in the lap of the gods! I've more pressing things to worry about...😁

in reply to Scout37

My heart rate averages anaerobic 167 for the most of my slow jogging! My threshold is apparently 190, I’m wondering if that’s when death actually will occur or it will just feel like it aha x I am giving up on the MAF method after my heart rates will never be that low jogging x perhaps it’s just one of those things about me personally z no point in worrying if it feels ok I will just keep doing it x are you on any meds? I took propanolol for anxiety a few months ago and my heart rate dropped 40 bpm and I shit myself so stopped taking them ahaha x

Not on propranolol or other beta blockers, only astmha and rhinosinusitis meds which I doubt would impact heart rate. I just think my cheapo fitness watch is wrong. Has to be!

in reply to Scout37

Ah yes that could be it, I use a polar which is annoyingly accurate x I’m getting a Garmin upgrade to treat myself on graduation and I’m like a kid at Xmas I swear lol

Pretty sure sports watches and apps don't really know how many calories we do burn, just how many we should, all things being equal.

in reply to Dorian1

Yes that’s my opinion too, things like the heat, the amount of water in me etc lots of variables x I suppose it’s all an educated guess eh?

Hmm.

I just fast walked (fairly anyway) the hill from my house to where I run. (I drive up, starting a run there would be the kiss of death).

Here's what Strava says:

I.54k.

17. 14 minutes.

97 calories.

48 m elevation gain.

The app that gives Heart Rate reckons I was at average 115 bpm, max 138 bpm.

I put Strava, Map My Run and Very Fit on.

All slightly different! What the heck is elevation gain anyway? Obviously too do with steepness, but how to interpret it?

I know that hill is hard work, even in walk!

And that 'too' was a typo. I'm an English teacher and that my phone would do this to me has me sobbing into my coffee...😢

Hahaha hello fellow pedant and welcome to my hell. I use “Cos” a lot now , i properly made myself, in order to feel better and realise I am not in an English exam in real life and can be forgiven for using the shorter route in that instance! As for those watches, well I was all set to get the Garmin 45s? It has an internal

GPS etc, but I have just read a very interesting thread on here that says the iPhone is more accurate! And that’s what I use! So off you go Garmin and I’m sticking with the Polar. It’s a minefield out there and I suppose as we are not athletes we should just enjoy the exercise itself and the bodily improvements lol x lot less mental stress ha x

Strava has now changed its mind and allocated me 130 calories burnt.

Crazy days...

in reply to Scout37

Why? Just why?

Heaven only knows. Must take half a day to make up its mind.

And re your other post...if you're saving money on a watch, you can buy a hot tub!

in reply to Scout37

Oh wow that would be the dream! All those warm bubbles in the rainy drizzle, but nope, I’m buying a slight upgrade to my current Polar brand which has no inner GPS, use my iPhone as per usual for strava x
