Newbie... Treadmill this time

TractorGirlTrying profile image

Hello all

Whilst I dream of gliding around the village in proper running gear... I have decided to give C25K a go on the treadmill as going out puts me off hugely and I’ve never made it past a few days.

Anyone else on here using a treadmill? Any tips very gratefully received.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum and well done your decision.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi, I use a treadmill most of the time, to stop boredom setting in I look on my iPad, on you-tube and watch virtual running, today I ran round the Cotswolds 😉😊

I began on the treadmill as couldn’t face going outside. By week 5 I wanted to be outside! It was initially harder to run on the roads but within a couple of runs I’d adjusted. Now I love running outside! It’s cooler, there’s more to see and hear and the sun or rain feels great! On the odd day I have to use the treadmill on days when it’s really wet it’s so boring now. I’d encourage you to get outside eventually when you are feeling more confident with your running. That day will come.

Thank you. I think once I can run steadily, rather than stop start I will get out there. Rain running appeals a lot 👍🏻 Sun not so much. Hopefully I’ll be out there before the end of the summer holidays 🤞🏻 Thanks again.

Thank you for the tips. I’ll do the 2% and in lieu of a fan, open the windows nice and wide 👍🏻

I disagree with Hidden . I did the whole of the C25K on a treadmill 5 years ago and continue to do a mix of both indoor and outdoor running - there simply isn't any need to put the incline on to simulate outdoor running when you're a beginner. When you eventually get outdoors you'll get used to it very quickly. There's very little that can replicate the propulsion of the treadmill belt. And besides the usual incline advice is 1%, not 2. I'd stick to 0% and just focus on completing C25K to be honest.

I’ve just started on my treadmill. I have chronic pain so don’t want to risk doing anything outside so the treadmill is my best option! I haven’t moved for 10 years so I’m starting off walking! I feel I will be repeating Run 1 for a very long time😆
