Average times

Now I’m a graduate I’m not sure what to do with my running goals. My prime

motivation is fitness but to make it more interesting I thought I’d work on times. I plan to work on a programme where I mix up distances, so I’m not always running a 5 k. I thought a mix of 1 mile, 2 mile & 5k would be about right, depending on time availability. I’d also like to mix in cycling and swimming, when the pools reopen.

I’m 72, is there an online source of age related times for my chosen distances. I’d like to use the average times as initial goals.

Does my plan sound reasonable or would you suggest something different? What do other graduates do?.

Your plan sounds fine but really the only realistic and useful comparison is with yourself.

You could look up age graded times on the parkrun websites which will give you an idea what others in your age range are achieving at 5k.

There are also online statistics that can be looked up which may give averages.
