My journey to 5k

I remember the moment when I realised I had to do something to get fit. I was sitting in the car listening to the news on Covid 19 and realised that should I get the virus I needed to have armed myself with the best chance of surviving it. Okay a bit over dramatic but that is how I felt.

Following morning I spent several hours internet shopping - I needed those lovely leggings, oh and that gorgeous matching top. Not to mention running shoes and cordless headphones were a must. So mentally having spent £500 I decided that I couldn’t afford to do that and went and had a rummage to see what I had. Found a pair of trainers that I bought in 1996 (I distinctly remember buying them as that was the last time I decided I was going to get fit!) that had been worn about twice 😂. Old leggings and tatty T-shirt were donned.

Podcast downloaded and off I went. It was a killer. Fat wobbled (not only unfit but overweight as well) and after the first minute I was shattered.

I kept telling myself the fitter I was the better chance I had to survive Covid19- it was this that kept me going. Not sure if this is true but I know I had to shift a few pounds.

So I stuck to the podcast and graduated so this is for all those starting off. You can do it and no fancy equipment needed. I am still running in the old stuff, not attractive but does the job.

If I can do it anyone can, and your reasons for doing this are your reasons.

Happy running.

Well done on your journey. I bet your running story rings true for so many. I started in February so pre covid but for similar reasons - Healthy ✅

Fit ❌

It's amazing what we can achieve with a bit of determination and as you say minimal kit. I've found the advice and encouragement from all here is invaluable.

Enjoy your runs.

Great post 👍 I think improving your health in view of all that’s going on is very sensible and partly why I started the programme. Like you I started running in old gear, thick tracksuit bottoms and a sweatshirt, and for some unknown reason a white tee shirt over the sweatshirt? Maybe I thought it made me more visible to traffic? 😂 it was the end of Jan when I started. ....since then I’m loving my new proper running gear, even the running tights!

If you’ve not treated yourself yet, go for it....you’ve earned it .......🤗
