Hi, I did week 4 run 1 this morning. This evening my knees especially the back are aching, especially getting up and down the stairs. Not had any pains since the start of this program, is this because I’m running more?
Any advice on this would be great.
Thanks. I’m

Some aches are perfectly normal... when we run we do microscopic damage to our muscles, and that damage is repaired and then the muscle is strengthened... this is often felt as an ache. Most of this work happens while you sleep... so while you may still feel it in the morning, it’s usually a little less than today. I still get these aches when I either push speed or endurance up, but on my regular runs it’s very rare these days.
Try not to sit for too long, keep those legs loose tomorrow, do some good strengthening work, and keep on the post run stretches. You’ve been fortunate not to have aches previously... and they should reduce over time.
Follow the advice in the guide to the plan on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
