My left thumb started aching after running because I always carried my phone in my hand - I don’t have a pocket in my running gear and never got round to buying a running belt.
Anyway, I found an old bum bag to use instead - problem solved - except now I realise that when I run I close my thumbs inside my palms almost like a fist without realising, and now both my thumbs are aching like mad, almost all the time.
I wonder if it’s actually just old age and I’m getting arthritis or something but it is so sore!

The recommended pose for your hands is with them relaxed, with thumb and forefinger just touching, as if holding a crisp or something else very delicate.
You shouldn't have tensions in your arms or shoulders, which is why I recommend that you never run holding anything in your hands.
