Gross question. Sorry!

Hi I’m new to the group and have just finished week 6 run 3. I have a really gross question but it seems to be my biggest obstacle. Basically when I run I get a lot of phlegm build up (omg I can’t believe I’m asking a lot of strangers about this). I’m constantly having to clear my throat and find it hard to breathe through my nose. It’s not a pollen thing or cold as this has been a thing since forever but now I want to get serious about this as it’s affecting my exercise. Is this just normal?

Again really sorry for the gross post, I wish my first time posting was a bit cooler!

Gemma

Welcome to the forum.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

If you can't breathe through your nose, then breathe through your mouth, as the majority of runners do.

Enjoy your journey.

There is advice in the app and podcasts to breathe through your nose, but most runners find this difficult and many respected authorities suggest it is not efficient, as explained in the guide, so no need to feel silly.
