So I did my first 'recovery run' on Monday.

I was happy with my 20 minutes. Although it was way off my normal pace, I did it. And no pains or niggles since either which is good.

But oh boy, did my legs ache for the next 2 days! I haven't struggled to walk up and down stairs like that since I did wk1 r1.

So, I left a good few days between runs. I did aim to go out on Thursday, but there just far too many people out there enjoying the sun. I have a bit of a phobia about people at the minute!

Friday it was then. And I'm so pleased with my second recovery run. Still at 20 minutes, but a little faster and no aches today. So we're going in the right direction.

I honestly don't know how I'm going to cope in summer though. I started C25K in October and discovered that I love running on cold days in torrential rain. Summer is just going to have to be early morning runs and accept I'll be coming home dripping with sweat rather than dripping with rain.

Onwards and upwards. Good work to all those on the plan. No matter how far through it you are, just remember, no matter how hard you find it or how slow you are, its better than being on the couch. The running bug gets us all in the end :-)

Feel exactly the same about running in summer, and I am not an early bird, so sweating away in the mid morning heat is the only option (I don't lose sleep for much!) and I feel the same about people atm. Another issue about living in a tourist destination right now, far too many people around, don't feel safe to run down to the beach😒 it's a sad state of affairs when it comes to that.

I've never seen so many people out and about.

Its now a case of running when I dare, rather than running when I want to lol.

Summer is great if you run at 5:30 in the morning. I have yet to experience a British summer when it was too hot at that time in the morning.

Stretching immediately after every run, nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h... while muscles are still warm and supple, pulls out contractions, avoiding carrying tensions into the next run and also improves recovery by improving blood flow

I did a few 5.30am runs in winter. But now I'm working from home, and don't need to crawl out of bed unto 7.30am... boy thats tough.

I do stretch after a run, but not nearly enough. I will get better at that!

Sounds like you've been pretty busy in one way or another. You're back on track now though and enjoying your comeback by the sounds of it. Glad to see you back!

Yep, far to many people getting complacent imo. It was very quiet around here during the lockdown ‘proper’, and the country park had barriers into the car park. But when the message was changed a fortnight ago And the barriers were removed it’s like back to normal pre Covid! Even the Icecream van is back. People are bonkers!

Sounds like your doing ok though and staying ‘alert’ 🤣. Well done 👍😁

I look out of my window and its like we're back to normal. Except, with more pedestrian traffic than before. But scary to be honest

That’s good that you kept going!!!

I don’t like running in the heat either (don’t like the thought of torrential rain either!) I found that running in the evening is really nice at the moment then I’m super chilled and sleep really well!

I'm going to have to try to get up earlier i think. Which shouldn't be difficult now i don't have travel time. But I've just got used to staying in bed longer lol

Well done Mig. You'll get there and soon your legs will remember where you got up to and you'll be pounding the tarmac without a thought again.

My legs always ache - mainly first thing in the morning when I get out of bed every day. I always stretch after a run, but that doesn't stop them aching, and they have done since I started C25K last November! I'm kinda used to it now.

Can you run into the countryside a bit? I'm not keen in running too local, although my interval loops are very local and I'm always running in and out of the road dodging other pedestrians .... and what really gets my goat .... dodging bikes!!! Yes bikes with adults or teenagers riding them on the pavement on an estate that is pretty quiet! And they expect me to get out of their way or they'll ride past me regardless because being on a bike seems to make them immune. When I was a kid, we didn't want to be seen dead riding a bike on the pavement, that was for little kids, we couldn't wait to get on the road, and no, even 40 years ago the roads weren't quieter than they are right now in covid-time, especially on an estate.

I'm with you on the weather though, the sun gives me a right headache when I get back, so I've taken to about 7pm when there's less strength in the sun, hopefully a bit of cloud cover and the wind is a little cooler. My favourite temperature when it's sunny is 10 degrees for running.

Cycling on the pavements! I hear you. Get on the road! We used to have lessons as kids to teach us how to cycle on the road. They are not even supposed to be on the pavements. Its an offence punishable by an on the spot fine.

So when they ride towards me, 2 abreast and get annoyed when I don't get out of their way, well thats their problem.

But yes, I felt good on that run and get a feeling I'll be back to starting 10k again soon enough. Just don't want to rush it and have a setback!

You are back in the groove so yippee 😁. I hear you all about the hoards of people now. I really don’t enjoy it especially being on the coast where the icecream vans are out and loads of folk totally ignoring the social distancing . I too have reverted back to early mornings where the crowds don’t come until mid morning.

I do still love running in the warm weather too but today’s wind was something else. Did somebody say Spring??? Happy running Mig 👏

Wind is not my friend, cold and wet or dry and warm, I don't along with wind!

Or people lol. Wind and people.

Few more weeks, it will all be back to normal

It’s the wind resistance .. drag effect 🤣. Selfish I know but I preferred total lockdown instead of this half way house.. yes I hear the economics of it all and other fallout but other countries make me envious in their prep for return to school/ work. Sorry this sounds political it’s not meant to be but..here’s to happy running 👍😁
