I’m crippled with age, apparently...

So, at 54 I am no spring chicken, but, according to a lady cyclist who dutifully waited for me to run past her on the narrow towpath, I am crippled with age!! The comment came when I said ‘ you’re much faster than me, so you could have gone first’.

Not sure I deserved that first thing on a Saturday morning whilst trying to complete w7r2!! It was right at the beginning of the run as well, so the thought kind of didn’t leave my brain for the duration of my run😢

I am normally fairly chipper on here, but feel a bit down now😒

Take no notice of this rude and insensitive person. You are doing brilliantly and it's a marathon not a sprint, as they say. I am 58, started c25k 3 years ago and run very slowly. I am just about to go out with the plan of running 11 miles. So chin up!

Pah! Its just great that you're both out and "talking"...even though you're not in perfect harmony...perhaps they were feeling a bit saddle sore so needed to get home quicker than you 😉...or perhaps they were grumpy because they're going to work😷! You never know peoples backstory so its often best to left that way....forgive and forget perhaps.

What matters is that you were out and about and making the most of your morning so well done you!

Im 59 and now a grad+4weeks and my 22 yr old son is so impressed that 'slow, fat old dad' can do this running thing.... that he now comes with me!

Just being out is impressive! 😁

Dear goodness... what does that make me at 70 then! Maybe she was joking !!

How rude...in hindsight a quick and witty response, "... but at least, I don't need a bike to help me move around" may have been in order:)

But no, she made a silly remark and hurtful.

Take absolutely no notice...you ran and are a runner and you are awesome... never forget that. Slow and steady as you move into the lovely longer runs and have a lovely day... you have been for a run:) xxx

I have a favourite saying..(I love my quotes and sayings as folk on here will tell you..)..and one I think is appropriate..

"It is a great pity that folks do not take time to taste their words before they spit them out"

Just ignore it. I’m 51 and completed C25K last year and have been running since. Just focus on the last couple of weeks as you are almost there, don’t let a comment like this put you off.

Thanks! I’ll remember to take my Zimmer frame out next time, lol!

A flippant remark gone wrong. It's hard enough getting up and out. But you did it...and do it. Keep on keeping on. Nothing as funny as folk!

Whippety1. Simple take the emotion from it & you end up with just words. These throw away comments came with little emotion.

Turn the situation into a positive, the mental strength you are showing in getting out there to complete week 7 is brilliant & completing the run with this added mental strain shows your true self.

Run 3 will be all the more satisfying for you having endured this & set you up nicely for Week 8.

You’ve got this. 👏👏👍🏻

Whippety1 Ha! You are getting out there, moving your legs and strengthening your body and your heart, getting that blood pumping those nutrients to the amazing organs in your body, and getting some fresh, rejuvenating, oxygenated air into your lungs, which is probably giving you some nice rosy cheeks, if not a beautiful beetroot tint to your whole face, and a runner’s glow! In my imagination at least, that makes you pretty awesome: you’re looking after yourself and your body and keeping it in good shape for the decades to come :) Don’t let anyone rain on your run, people’s rude comments are almost always a reflection of their own state of mind and whilst that doesn’t mean they aren’t hurtful, please try to let go of that feeling quickly and brush it off as that - think of how you being out and about is a responsible and energetic and energising thing to do!

Whenever I get some comments (I’m 27, but if you’re around teenagers a lot, they are absolutely brutal..) I remember that after any yoga class or run I genuinely loook 10 years younger and if not younger, more positive and beautiful (or beetiful) with that glow of a healthy person - and I remember to love myself for it! Well done on getting so far in the Couch to five k programme, you’re fabulous!!!! :)

There are always going to be unkind, insensitive and downright rude people out there. Don’t listen to her. One day when she’s closer to 54 she’ll realise what an ignorant cow she was.

Just like anyone else who is mean spirited they must have a horrible life to need to make complete strangers feel bad about themselves to feel good about themselves!

Keep running and I think you’re amazing!

How very rude! What an ignorant person and I’m sorry she ruined your run. But you are amazing and try to let go of someone’s stupid comment. Maybe she is also sat at home or wherever, and regretting what she said (let’s hope so)

I’m a year behind you and I’ve just graduated this morning - I say, go us for getting out there, getting over wearing unforgiving Lycra in daylight ( normally I save it for darkened gym classes!) and for looking like a beetroot ( I’m not called sweaty hettie for nothing😜)

You are doing fab. You are fab.

Just remember- youth is wasted on the young

Thank you Hettie! I feel so much better now, reading everyone’s supportive comments! Well done again on your performance this morning! Can so relate to your comment about black Lycra! 7 weeks ago I wouldn’t have dared wear it in public, mind you I do go out VERY early!

Onwards and upwards!!😄

Just ignore it, I graduated yesterday and I’d finished my 30 minute run, was bit red in the face and doing my cool down walk, catching my breath. A cyclist rode past me looked over and smirked, I just thought you don’t know how much I’ve just run mate. Ignore other people and power on 👊👍
