Advice needed - Blisters!

Hi everyone!

Long time no speak. Although I have been lurking on this forum for the past year and keeping up with you all.

Since my last post (which was a year ago!) I have maintained my fitness and been really into going to the gym. I must admit I did not maintain the running as much as I would like and, similarly to many in lockdown I felt it was a good time to get back in to it. I have been re doing couch to 5k for the second time and I am currently on W7 R2. I’m loving it and as determined as ever to keep it up consistently this time!!

However on my run on Sunday I developed a nasty (semi open) blister on my inner arch of my right foot. It wasn’t too bad during the run but was very painful on return and I couldn’t walk on it much that day or the day after. I haven’t run since for obvious reasons and I was hoping to go out tomorrow.

I have had compeed on the area however the plaster was close to falling off today so I have removed it and also felt giving the blister some air would be good. It still looks rather red and tender and I am unsure whether to go out tomorrow or not!

Any advice at all? I am worried about losing some of my fitness if I have too many days off but I don’t want to go out and make it worse and more painful.

Ps I have brought new shoes about two months ago which have been really comfortable and supportive. I am unsure if it’s an area of these shoes rubbing but due to current circumstances I wasn’t able to get a proper gait analysis. I might try and get better professionally fitted shoes later on in the year but hoping these ones are ok for now!

What are your thoughts - should I go out tomorrow or wait a few more days for it to heal?

Thank you all on this community you have always kept my spirits positive and it’s such a great forum. Really appreciate you sharing any stories you have about blisters too!

Hope you’re all keeping well and happy running x

Welcome back and Well done for getting back into running. I think that you maybe need to give the blister time to heal well before running on it. Although I know that the compeed plasters are very good it’s said that you don’t lose fitness for about 2 weeks so time might be the best healer.

Stay safe and run carefully.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and for your lovely message!

Really appreciate your advice and feeling reassured about your comment about not losing fitness for about two weeks. I feel I am starting to sway on the side of caution that I should probably give it a few more days and that shouldn’t do any more harm than good. Thank you so much again 🏃🏻‍♀️

Hello you, hope you are well. Keep up with the compeed plasters and maybe give yourself a few more days as I think if you go back out running tomorrow you will just aggravate the blister even more. Good luck and happy running 🤗🤗

Buddy! So lovely to hear from you - how have you been?!

Thank you so much for your advice. Will put another compeed on this evening and fingers crossed it will all heal over in a few days (and that I can keep the blisters away from now on!)

I'm doing just fine. If you're interested I ran my first HM on Sunday. Hope you're blister heels asap. Don't stay away so long next time 😊👍

You may need to invest in better shoes unfortunately, I was always told you only got blisters if your feet move around inside your shoe 😐

Thank you, I am planning on getting a proper gait analysis done when I am able! Also think I might need to invest in some better running socks
