On wk 2 and can't quite believe I've got this far being so unfit. Can someone tell me why my calf muscles ache so much and will it pass as I get fitter?

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

You are making demands of parts of your body that you may not have used in such a way for many years, or possibly ever.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi well done keeping going. I had the same around week 2 but make sure you stretch a bit before the warmup and a lot after the run. A foam roller can help after the run too. On the warmup walk check your muscles are feeling ok and no tightness.

Welcome!

Make sure to stretch properly...

When I start running again hopefully the end of this week maybe I'll be at the same place as you.

Good luck!
