Hi everyone!

I am new to this and just completed my second run of the first week. Feeling great apart from nearly having a heart attack coz I’m so overweight! Gotta start somewhere though eh!!?

Welcome and great job getting started. The early runs are tough, and in many ways you’ve done the hardest bit. Have a look at IannodaTruffe’s FAQ post healthunlocked.com/couchto5... it contains many tips to get you through this, especially without thinking you’re about to have a heart attack 🤣. *Spoiler alert* it’s easier, and better for you, if you slow down.

We all start somewhere, we all remember week one... and I think a lot of us keep going just so we never have to do it again! However, your fitness will rise a lot faster than you’d think... soon you’ll be running 30 minutes at a time... one day you’ll be able to go out for an easy 5k run... all it takes is you getting out there and running.

You can do this, enjoy your journey

I’m going to give it 100% and I ‘will’ complete the 9 weeks. I am determined!

Thank you again! Great motivational message! 😊

Keep coming here and letting us know how you’re doing... we can cheer you along when it’s going great, and pick you up if it’s not going so well. You’re absolutely right though, you will do this.

Well done for getting out there 😁

It does get easier - never in a million years did I think I would be able to run for 30 minutes, but I can ☺

Just don't try to go too fast - snails 🐌 pace is perfect 👌

Happy running 🏃 ☺️

Thank you for the motivation! It’s so nice to have support and hear success stories. I literally can’t imagine myself getting to 30 min runs again after not running for 15 years but I’m going to give it 100%.

Thank you again 😊

This is fantastic to read Ecsims86 because you have told us all that you have started the programme and we are a nosey bunch so want regular updates on your progress and I just KNOW that in a few more posts we will be reading something very different!!! You are not the only one who feels like you were going to have a heart attack, honestly, you say you’re overweight but even if you weren’t you would still feel like that!! Keep at it, keep it slow, stay focussed and remember you are doing something amazing, that heart attack, breathless feeling will very soon be replaced by a very different feeling in a few more runs 😉 well done for making this life changing decision

Positive thoughts Ecsims86! The first few runs will make you wonder if you’ll get through alive! But you will - I did so I know you can! Take it slow and then slow down, even if you feel you’re running slower than you can walk! Take a look at the YouTube clip on Japanese Slow Running- it’s a lifesaver! Stay hydrated every day, not just running days. And most importantly, let us know how you get on! Any questions, we’re here to answer them’! Good luck!

Thank you! I’m on it!

I will keep in touch and let you know how I get on. I feel like I need to push myself as wont feel like I’m doing anything. Would seem pointless to go in half heartedly! I’m going for it! 💥

You can do this, and you will. 👍

As everybody says, start slowly, really slowly. Running is the action of moving forward with bothe feet off the ground at some point during the step - it has nothing to do with speed. Think 🐌

Always take your rest days. I always took two, but I think I'm probably older than you.

Don't worry about the 9 weeks thing - it takes as long as it takes. I think everybody here has repeated a run or a whole week, at some point.

Keep posting here for support a good luck 👏
