After C25K

Since graduating, I've pushed on with my running. I bought a set of running clothes and have found using the right gear does make a difference. Probably the best buy has been a heart rate monitor - just a cheap one. It has shown me that I was really running too hard at first, so I now build up more slowly during a run and my breathing is so much better.

I did my first Park Run last week and, for me, I was surprised that running with all the others made it feel easier. I did the 5k in 36 minutes and was 440th out of 550 runners. There were only a dozen or so older than me, so I'm pleased with that result.

Gaining extra confidence and never having run more than 5k in my life, I thought I'd try going a bit further in my training this week. I managed a 4.5 mile (7.2 km) route in an hour of non-stop running.followed by a good walk and stretches. At the end I felt remarkably good and reflected on the fact I started C25K less than six months ago.

Good luck to all the runners reading this, especially the ones newer than me.

Well done on your running - it's great to hear that you have carried on after completing the programme and I know that others setting out on the own journey will be inspired by what you are achieved. Good luck and keep on running!👍😀
