I got through the run today. Not easy but I was delighted with myself. About 2 hours later my shins started feeling tender/hot as I was pottering around the house.
Is this a sign of trouble for the next run or just a normal part of recovery? I got over the stitches in week 4 - is this a week 5 thing? 😄
I don’t want anything to put me off track- I’m really enjoying the process!

Maybe allow yourself an extra rest day. Make sure you are repaired before you go out again.
Try running on softer surfaces. Maybe try running on grass.
Also this could be a sign that you needs new or proper pair of running shoes. Shin splints are more likely at this point of the program. The runs are more intense now than in the earlier weeks. You’ve probably just been getting by until now, but these more intense runs will highlight a need for good shoes. Knackered shoes or trainers that are not especially add for running may very well give you shin splints. If you’ve not done so already I recommend going to a running shop, getting fitted properly for running shoes. It can be a bit expensive first time, but after you’ve been fitted then you know your style and size and you can get your next pair on line.
New shoes can feel kinda bouncy. I love getting new shoes.
Sorry if I’ve been droning on and you knew all of this already. Good luck!
I have the shoes so I’ve figured out that I was pushing myself too hard. I hadn’t done enough prep and was thinking I needed to be able to run a certain distance instead of time!
Now I try to keep a short, slow stride and ‘kiss the ground, don’t pound’ 🤣
You must be almost finished? Hope it is going well. Good luck.
I graduated almost 2 years ago, but had some health issues last year so I am getting back into running. I just have to ease up and slow down too, allowing myself extra rest days if I feel like I need them.
