Well the storm has pretty much passed and we’re down to ‘Cornwall Winter Base Rate Wind Speed’ (40mph) - that’s not a thing, I just made it up 🤪. Unfortunately the storm in my head is at its worst.
After an incredibly difficult weekend battling with the ‘black dog’ I spontaneously decided to have a go at outdoors running this morning instead of using the treadmill. This was my first ever outdoor run (for someone who works outdoors this is quite silly I guess).
Well! What can I say? After the past couple of weeks of feeling quite the fraud for running on the treadmill (I’d heard it was an easier workout), I thought an outdoors run would be disastrous! Not so! My legs ache in slightly different places than before, but I didn’t finish beetroot red, covered in sweat and desperate for a litre of water. I ran up hill (there is no flat around here) and didn’t die. I even overtook someone. The fact she was walking and carrying a heavy bag does not count 🤣. All in all, a far better experience. The only downside was a man walking his dog said hello and I could stop to pet the doggy 😭 - this clearly demonstrates my commitment to running.
Rather entertainingly my run app says I ran 5k and burnt 370 calories whereas on all my other runs my treadmill tells me I ran 2.6km and burnt 81 🤔.
I feel better, I’m aware it won’t last, but I have more confidence as a real runner than I did before. Also, I’m still here which after the weekend is quite impressive.
Thanks for reading this far 😁. I post a photo of the view from my first ever outdoor run as a thank you......admittedly it’s not the best photo ever, but you can see the sea (although it looks further away than it is) and also some pointy shaped holiday chalets.
Hope you all have a good day
