Hello C25K friends I’m back. I posted this originally on B210K and I’m repeating it here because it might be of help to someone who is injured during C25K or, like me, shortly after graduation. I was very worried that I’d lose all my fitness after an 8 week break but this wonderful programme must have done even more good for my body than I thought.
I must first apologise for not being here to support and encourage my VRBs while I’ve been on the IC. Life took over, mostly in the form of a charity fair that sucks up time like a turbo Dyson.
I’ve been out for eight weeks after falling on my wedding anniversary. I had only been running for seven weeks post-C25K graduation and I thought I might need to start from the beginning - if I ever actually managed to run again. It felt like the stars were against me; I was ready two weeks ago but then I caught a cold that went to my chest and aggravated my asthma. A week ago I was raring to go. Monday was to be the day but I woke to the beautiful sight of Budapest shrouded in snow. The dog was delighted but it wasn’t the day to return from the IC. Tuesday was milder and there was a bit of a melt followed by a succession of below zero temps that turned pavements and roads to sheets of ice. Walking was a challenge and running impossible.
A cheeky trip home to London for shopping and a taste of the capital’s Christmas buzz, presented me with an opportunity and, on Sunday, I donned my ASICS and headed to the Sepentine in Hyde Park, where I ran for 25 minutes for the first time back in August at the end of week 6 of C25K. My hero of a husband ran with me, slowing to my pace to keep me company and encourage me on. I managed 4km in 30 minutes, not breaking any records but much better than I expected. Weather permitting, I’ll be working on getting my fitness back to where it was in the next couple of weeks.
So don’t despair if you’re out for a while. C25K Is changing your body and fitness level more than you might think.
Sorry for the long post. I’m just so happy to be running again. The photo is our garden on Monday. Pretty.
Happy running my friends
