cannot reply to previous post for some reason, but whilst I understand how it might be considered confusing, it is preferable to get out and begin the task whatever the end goal.I have read elsewhere that runners can be quite dismissive of "slow times" to complete 5k. They have said they can walk that distance in 40/45 mins. The inference being (rather arrogantly) that its only okay if people are hitting the half hour mark or less. Rubbish !!! From being a non runner to actually attempting to keep going for 5 kilometres non stop is a magnificent achievement for an awful lot of us. whether age, circumstance, or injuries have held us back. The key is to maintain some form of self disclipline and improvements will come. Do not be put off by negative comments from anybody is my tip.

Hear, hear! It's amazing to me that I am now regularly running 5km, all thanks to C25K and all the support and encouragement on this forum. I'd love to be a speedy gonzalez and do it in 30 minutes but if that never happens, that's fine with me. I am a lot faster than if I had stayed on the couch! I have never ever heard any negative comments about speed but if I did, they would be water off a duck's back to me now.
Gosh yes, and steer well clear from any runners who may say otherwise. I have been running for 6 years now and I am on a number of running facebook groups etc and its incredibly rare for me to come across anybody that has that attitude ( I very rarely do a 5k in under 30 minutes). And if I do, then I just feel sorry for them as running is one place that should embrace inclusivity. I get really upset when I hear this about people.
Love your message Ju-Ju- that running embraces inclusivity 👍😁I’ve been amazed and totally touched by how true that is, in this forum. It’s gigiven me the confidence to graduate C25K and start Parkrun, where I found exactly the same inclusive warm welcome. Phenomenal!
You and your parkrun 🙄 😉
Sadly, some people just like to come into a community like this and be confrontational. I'm pleased to say that the 'hidden' poster from the thread you must be talking about is the first time I've seen anything like that on here. Everyone else (including you) is so positive so it was easy for me to just dismiss their posts (although I did read them all!) as idiotic and not worth wasting any grey cells thinking about!
Honestly in the time I have been involved in this forum and on C25K, I have experienced nothing but positive support. Even if the occasional person might feel the need to be negative (which I haven’t seen here to be honest) it’s no big deal. Running is a joy at whatever speed and it has visibly changed lives, including mine. I embrace everyone’s running experience and enjoy sharing the happiness it has brought me and reading about others experiences. Good luck with all your running, regardless of speed 💐👍👏
I was going to comment on the original post but it seems the thread has been removed. I am a huge fan of C25K and all it has achieved for me and thousands of others. I'm sorry that "hidden" got so cross about it all and appeared to be criticising the programme itself rather than the name.
However I do agree that the title doesn't actually describe what's in the tin. At a time when there is so much fake news, slightly fake news and downright lies around on social and mainstream media, I think it's fair to be concerned about such things. I think the correct answer to "hidden" would be something like: "Yes, you are correct that the title might be misleading. Fortunately most people find out pretty quickly that the programme is actually about running for 30 minutes. It is a catchy name and unfortunately now it's much too late to change it!"
FWIW I started C25K on January 1 this year, with the aim of doing a 5k Resolution Run after seven weeks, by which time I calculated I would be up to 28 minutes running. Having no idea whatever about running speeds, and no idea how far I was going for the first few weeks, it took me a while to work out that I wouldn't have reached the target by the time the Resolution Run came along. I did the run with a bit of walking, and it was fine, but if I was a competitive person I might have been disappointed.
I'm now going to hide behind a parapet for a week or two.
