Not too many runners have a beer gut, some do drink beer but only in moderation.
I recently heard a story of a long distance runner who after a run went into a pub and ordered two pints of beer, while the barman was serving him his second beer the runner drank in one go the first pint, in around 10 seconds, now that is a exception to the rule, most runners after they have ran, take their time over a pint 🍻.

Great for getting started, just go slow and slower again and make sure you're drinking plenty water about 2-3 litres per day and not just on run days.
