Running Watch

I’m quite sure this has already been covered, but I’m trying to research watches for running. I’m beginning to find it hard to use my phone, when doing park runs etc and think a watch would be a lot easier. I only really want the tracker/fitness as I’m not bothered about taking calls etc like an Apple Watch. I love the Nike Run Club on my phone and really want something like this on my wrist. Easy to turn on and operate , shows my pace, how far I’ve been etc. I don’t want or need anything stupidly expensive as I’m very happy plodding along near the back. I don’t want to be an “all the gear, no idea”, plus I’m a bit hopeless with technology. Does anyone have any suggestions?

👋🏻 I’d like to know this too! I’ve been looking at Garmin watches, but haven’t decided on anything yet

I bought a garmin forerunner 35 at the weekend reduced to £104 may get lower online. Gives buzz at 1k interval along with time for that 1k. Can be set for your own intervals time/distance. Links to phone, tracks route, heart rate etc 3 other family members have various garmins - this one 2nd from basic but does loads.

I bought a garmin forerunner 35 in July. Once you get the hang of it, it's quite easy to use. It gives you pace, heart rate, step count, calories burned, sleep info and lots more. I wear mine all the time. 😊

Go garmin. The bit I dont like is if you sit still or are perceived to be sitting still too long it buzzes MOVE I've been doing lots this morning but obviously not enough as just been buzzed to move so guess it's time to move and lunch

Thank you so much. That looks exactly what I want. Not sure I want to be told to move though 😂

It's really easy to use and a bit addictive to keep checking things. I did race yesterday, just one button to start after telling it I was running then without me doing anything else it buzzed at each km and displayed my pace. One click to stop then one to save. Perfect

I think you can turn it off if you want. There was one day for me that comes to mind. I had went out for a run then took the dog out for a 40 minute walk then when standing doing 1 1/2 hours of ironing it was telling me to move. I thought cheeky garmin 😂

There maybe not a lot of advice on the instruction manual but there is loads online if you're ever stuck 😊

Apple Watch now leaps to mind as it has NRC available, and Garmin support told me last week that my watch isn’t as accurate as my iPhone and is highly unlikely to be, even when running away from a phone network. It’s an expensive option though and needs charging daily, so in other ways my Garmin is a better option.

Depends what you need really... if accuracy isn’t going to be an issue, Garmin connect can link to Nike Run Club, so you can have the best of both worlds.

I think the Apple Watch is too expensive for me at this stage. The Garmin is looking like the one to go for. This has been really helpful, thanks everyone x

Agreed... I’m considering a series 3 as it’s “only” £200 but then so will the 5 be next year 🤣

I run with a Garmin forerunner 35 and phone together most of the time... I can either drive the run by watch with my phone just there for emergencies or I can start a guided run (9 second delay start) and use the watch in cardio mode for rough stats on the fly without ending up with duplicate runs in NRC (linking Nike and Garmin accounts only sends what Garmin sees as runs over to Nike)

You should be able to find an excellent Forerunner 235 on EBay for around £90 or less.
