Dark and cold running nights are a coming. Looking for advice.

Hello runners. Being pretty new to running and graduating during the summer I am aware that the dark nights and cold is on its way. I am looking for advice on the best clothing and safety equipment to put on to avoid me ending up back on the couch until the sun shines again. All recommendations appreciated.

Seeing and being seen are at the top of the list, obviously.

My preference is for a headtorch with a red rear light, simply because this enables you to look around you as you run. Whereas the body lamps favoured by many only light the area immediately in front of you. I run across unlit fields.

I remember someone on here buying some shoes with lights in them and she said that they were good, but I can't imagine that lights at ground level are going to be much good if running through long grass.

Hi viz clothing, often with reflective strips, also helps even in areas where you may not need a lamp.

Excellent advise and many thanks. Going to go for the head light gear now.

Make sure you get one that fits close to your head. My first one was mighty powerful, but wobbled about annoyingly.
