I have completed the C25K two weeks now and I have done 7 consolidation runs since then. I have gradually increase the distance -by lowering my speed- from my graduation 4.18km in 30:49 pace 07:17/km to 5km in 40:32 pace 8:03/km in my last run, and I saw that my average heart beat rate is only slightly higher (84%) compared to my graduation 82% and I wonder if having a rate over 80% (my actual rate is 143 but since I am 50 the % is 84) is OK . I have done all the medical examinations 3 months ago

As far as I understand it, the threshold of going anaerobic is around the 90% mark, so from a running point of view 80+ shouldn’t be a big deal... if running to burn fat then lowering it will help. My maximum is 190 and most runs I don’t get even close to it... sometimes the Garmin doesn’t even credit it as strenuous exercise 🤣. Maybe once a fortnight I push pace and then I can see 176-180 peak.

My watch says that 70-90% is a vigorus exersise and above that is extreme

I’m 47... wow, that looks so wrong 🤣🤣

I’m learning to run by perceived effort. Long run 4/10, recovery 4-5/10, tempo 6/10 race 8-9/10 and then there’s those horrible sprint days 🤣

The guidelines for calculating max heart rate are very flawed and frequently discussed. If mine were correct I'd be dead now. 🤣

Just use it as a very loose guide but so long as you're not feeling discomfort in your chest you'll be fine👍🏻😁

I am a fan of “I’m not dead so my heart rate was ok” and unless there’s an underlying medical condition there would be nausea and faintness before heart attack from what I’ve read. I do often wonder how the 4 minute mile was broken without a Garmin 🤣
