So still running 32 mins with the odd speed interval to change it up a bit I finally went for gait analysis despite my reservations (runnersconnect.net/running-...
Was told I was neutral. It cost £30 for less than 5 mins (free if I bought from the shop). The guy was helpful with choosing trainers but the ones I went for cost £115. Afterwards when I checked online I can get them for £70. So even with the £30 I was still down £15.
To be honest I felt pretty scammed initially but now on balance I think it’s best I know I’m neutral and what kind of runners I should be going for. Worth paying £45 more for trainers? Not sure.
Anyway they are a massive improvement from before and I’m sure I ran faster 😉

Gait analysis is worth doing annually... but there’s also the option to get 2nd and 3rd pairs online straight afterwards!
Nice shoe porn... I’m a fan of that kind of colour scheme... my new ones arrived yesterday and they’re black on black with black logos and even a black sole!
Yes, I can’t cope with the usual assumed female colours of pink and purple 🙄 I didn’t know the gait profile can change though! The shop guy didn’t mention that.
Usually it doesn’t, but it can... some of it I think is related to speed more than anything. Technically we have at least 4 gaits... walk, jog, run and sprint... some also include skip but I never do that. The main difference is the speed and the muscle movement, but footfall can be affected... and unlike the horse our gaits aren’t massively different, so we may have a changing with speed gait more than separate ones, I’m no bio mechanical expert but this is my understanding for gaits changing over time... and then things like strengthening and stability work to make running easier also have an effect.
Crikey £30 is a bit steep for the gait analysis, especially if it only took 5 mins.
I think the shop i went to charged £20 but again that was free if you got the trainers there but it took almost half an hour of being video-ed and then trying on different types of shoe until they found the most suitable. Then again my feet are as flat as pancakes so i wasn't a straight forward customer!
