How important is food ahead of a run?

So I normally run after work about 6pm/6:30pm, and I eat lunch about 1pm 1:30pm.

Should I be aiming for a snack in the middle of the afternoon?

Also today I am finishing work early and going to the doctors so it will be tricky to get a snack in, does it get to a point where its too close to the run to snack and its better to not?

Assuming you have a reasonable amount to eat at lunchtime it’s fine. In fact it’s important NOT to eat too much before a run. They say leave four hours after a big meal and one hour after a snack. For the distances in this programme you can even run before breakfast if you ate properly the day before.

I run first thing in the morning. At around 5 : 45am. I have eaten nothing since dinner the night before usually. Thursday I ran my first 5.5k and I had only had water since Wednesday's dinner.

It's probably psychological but I feel I have a better run if I've had a banana about 4/4.30 pm, I generally run at 6/6.30 when I get home from work. But I'm always ravenous by 6 even if I'm not running.

On a weekend I never eat extra before I run, just time my runs to be at least 2 hrs after a meal 🤷‍♀️

Try and have something 2 hours before your run, I usually go for a banana, almonds or dried apricots for a little boost.
