Let's go outside

As George Michael said (although he meant it completely differently), I did a *very* short run outside today, 500m. My first run outside where I was dressed for running and intended to do it and wasn't just late for my train in heels with a back pack lol

I have a "free" day - my 3 weeks of consolidation finished Friday and I will start the bridge to 10k next week, so I wondered what to treat myself with.

I decided to try it outside (as opposed to my usual treadmill).

I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, it was more difficult than the treadmill, or maybe just different, but it wasn't too bad.

There is still too much pollen around for me to run a normal run outside (I think the rain made it all fall down and now the sun and wind here is drying it out and bringing it up again in to the air), but I am a bit less worried about my parkrun in August.

I am also glad that my treadmill is on the 1.5 incline setting - my village is built on a hill lol

Given that my run was so short, I will do a 'proper' run on the treadmill later

If you can run in heels, you can probably take on anything. Well done getting out.

Indeed, I can't even walk in them!

I can do 5K on a treadmill but a 200m dash for the train wears me out haha

Welcome to running outside!

Wow. I suppose I just assumed everyone ran outside. The more you know, the more you know what you don’t know. I hadn’t considered hay fever, hilly areas and other factors.

I have been considering buying a treadmill for when the weather is just too horrible. But I would need to do my research. I’m very tall, and even more clueless, so it would need to be very foolproof and resilient.

The alternative is a gym membership, which still fills me with fear and dread.

Anyway, I hope you find more opportunities to enjoy running outside.

I get seasonal asthma - I can take antihistamines but they make me groggy and sleepy so I try and take it only when I can't manage without them. Unfortunately sucking in large lungfuls of outside air while running is a bit beyond my hayfever abilities at the moment (I nearly ended up in hospital a few years ago because I didn't listen to my body).

I'm trying to be patient, but I got a new pair of running leggings with a zip pocket at the back and a wind breaker and wanted to see how they went

Ah! Joggers with zipped pockets - the holy grail. Yes, I realised how useful those are once I moved to running in parks and needed to carry car keys securely.

I also acquired running shorts with zipped pockets for the nicer days. I definitely prefer running in shorts - just feels easier. Joggers for when it’s cold and drizzly.

I just feel sorry for those that have to see my legs.

lol, they are not looking at your legs, they are looking at the gazelle like qualities of your running!

these joggers (thank you for the technical term) have a back zip pocket and a side pocket but the side pocket goes backwards and not forwards, a bit weird, maybe I'm just "old skool" on the pocket front

Gazelle... yeah, ok. Let’s go with that. 😂
