Leg pain and swelling

Hi all,

Despite making sure I do all my stretches before starting my legs are in agony almost as soon as I start running. I have varicose veins which seem to be getting worse so my circulation is probably not great. I have bought some compression sleeves so I'm hoping that might help. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I have just finished week 4 but I seriously struggled finishing run 3 today due to the pain and swelling.

In my opinion post run stretching is far more important than pre run stretching, as long as you do at least the five minute warmup walk. Pre run stretching needs to be dynamic, as opposed to static. Post run stretching pulls out muscular tensions preventing you carrying them into the next run and improves recovery. Pre run static stretching has been linked to injury, so is best avoided.

There are links in the guide to the plan.

If I had swelling in my legs I would consult my GP.

I would advise getting checked out by your GP at this point... you should not run with pain and swelling!
