Thank you , really helpful :-) Would you think it be ok to do easy and slow runs , providing they are pain free? Or is it best just to stick to walking to keep moving ?

Definitely speak to your gp, running can be good or bad depending on circumstances. In the end, there is only one way to find out..

Personally I get lower back pain but running doesn’t affect it negatively, what helps though is core strength exercise like yoga and pilates.

Well..it is most important to pinpoint what is causing it..so maybe a Sports physio could help???

Hi @Anne-13. Make sure it is a piriformis problem. I used to be a cyclist, but I got pain in my butt, which was diagnosed by 2 physios as a piriformis problem. I did physio & exercises for a year and as soon as I got back on my bike it started again. So I thought - I'll try running instead & started C25K. No good. Went back to the GP and physio and they said - ah, it's a high hamstring problem. More physio, another year went by and still no good. I was getting really depressed about it. Then my wonderful partner gave me a course of osteopath sessions for my birthday. The osteopath fixed me in one visit - it turned out to be reduced movement in my sacroiliac joint. That was about 6 weeks ago. I've just come back from wk 4, run 2 and am amazed, as I used to hate running at school (a long time ago now!). So don't keep plugging on if things don't improve - make sure the diagnosis is right in the first place. Good luck!

Sit on a tennis ball but do it gently.

And this stretch is the best one IMO. If you can't do it on the floor try it over a low bench.
