Faster 2km run

So, post graduation at my steady sloath pace with sub 3Km 30 min runs.... I didn't really feel I could try to run faster or keep going for longer than my 30 to 33mins... so I tried faster and shorter....

So, from 10:15/11:40 mins / km I was aiming for a 20 minute 2km run!

Encourage, and accompanied by my 14 year old son, (who can walk faster than I run) - I gasped my way there and back to a stunning sub 9 mins/km 2km run.

It did remind me a bit of my W1 R1, but at least I did it. I think I won't be trying it again very soon, but it was definately an experience.

A lot more consolidation is required before I work on speed... it's clearly not my thing, athough I would LOVE it to be my thing one day. I think if I can ever get a 5k in 30 mins I'm flying over to the UK to find a park run! : )

It must be motivational to do the 2km in your target time limit. I would congratulate you for that. In the meantime, you may want to go through this in order to improve stamina and speed to better your performance.

Thanks - I've downloaded the podcasts to check out tomorrow

Intervals are good for speeding up. Have a look at the app JogRunSprint

I’m not a quick runner, but so what we are out there! Well done on that result!

“Steady Sloath” - I love the expression and the vision it conjures up.

I am slow but I have started the programme again but now the walking parts are my slow run and the run parts are a bit faster so I go faster for longer. It seems to be working for me. I am now on week 3 but did spend far longer than needed at week 2, I liked those intervals.

I am considering doing just that... but I probably need to consolidate my (slow) 30 minute runs for a bit longer first.... although my sub 20 min 2k run certainly didn't seem to be an easy option yesterday!

I guess I mustn't get too obsessed about never making a sub 1h 5K... 5K in 30 will happen for me one day! : )
