I'm one of those eejits that needs a goal to motivate me. So, about 4 weeks ago, my local community group asked me if I would run a leg of the relay in the Belfast Marathon, to raise money for a childrens playpark. Like the eejit I am, I agreed, and then found out I have to run 5 miles.
In the month prior to this I had been away on holiday and barely run the length of myself. And I have never run more than 5k...ever. So, a good friend wrote a training plan for me, in the hope I'll get round the 5 miles this Sunday.
This explains why I was out today, running in a torrential downpour, and in a wind that would cut you in half. I put three layers on, a baseball cap (to keep the water out if my eyes), and a pair of woolly gloves to keep my hands warm.
In 10 minutes, a waterfall was coming off the brim of the cap. My feet started to squelch. After 20 minutes, I took the woolly gloves off, as I'm sure it was the amount of water in them that was holding me back...
Added to that, about 30 minutes in, my calf started to hurt, and then got a twinge in my back. So, I started shouting "go away pain, I'm not stopping, so you can do one"
Hope to gawd nobody saw or heard me π€£π€£.
Oh, the run was great, did 5.2k! If you happen to be in Belfast on Sunday, and you see a 62 year old woman running and shouting at herself, it's me. Wave please! At least I hope the fundraiser will do better. π€πββοΈπββοΈ
