Week 3 -run 1 . Feeling proud but have sore shins 😕

I’m 63 years old and am running for the first time. I ruptured my RightAchilles’ tendon December 2017 skipping with my granddaughter 😄. It was a massive wake up call that I needed to do some exercise to strengthen my body. I’ve eventually started C25K and am enjoying it, I think! Have invested in some new proper running trainers this week but my previous runs in my old ones must have done something to cause shin splints. Any advice on what to do about this gratefully received as I don’t want to give up now that I’ve begun so well. Do I keep on going on my week 3 runs and if so, how long should I leave between runs?
