Extra couple of rest days ok?

I’m having to rest my knee up for a bit as it has been a bit painful recently (not when running but just afterwards) and my last run was yesterday (Tuesday) I’m thinking I’ll skip my run planned for tomorrow (Thursday) and then aim to do a run again on Saturday (if my knee feels better). Is it ok to take this many days off? Will it set me back? I’m just about to start Week 9. Thanks everyone!

Yes the usual rule of thumb is you can pick up from where you left off after an enforced break of two weeks or less. If it’s actual pain as distinct from the (aches all new runners get) then certainly don’t run till it’s healed.

Many of us can’t follow the regular run day/off day pattern all the time because of the ups and downs of life. Extra rest sounds sensible. Hope your knee is back to normal soon x

Remember the plan is just a guide, we’re all different. I found 3 runs a week too much, kept getting overuse injuries. I run twice a week, and have gone on to run 10ks and half marathons, so give yourself a break!

Rest and come back slow and steady.

Thanks Madge 50 - great advice again and good to know how well it’s worked out for you - very encouraging to hear! X

As the guide to the plan states you lose next to no condition in the first two weeks of non running......... you will be fine.

Listen to your body.

I’m pleased you’ve asked this question as I think I’m having a complete leg rest day today Not running for a few days hadn’t cured my shin ache.

Let’s chill then futurefit. 👍🏻

Absolutely let’s relax and then am sure we will be fighting fit again in no time. I shouldn’t have run yesterday but did - starting to realise how important it is to listen to our bodies.

I found a stick on freezer cool compress at the back of the cupboard. Works for up to 3 hours. It’s taking the pain away at the moment. 👍🏻
