So I’ve gradually been getting faster and covering more ground since graduating (still not hitting 5k though!), and tonight I think I overdid it and I have pain in what I guess is my Achilles and my foot is difficult to walk on. Never had an injury before, has anyone done this? Any advice on best ways to recover? Thanks.
Going fine then...argh! Achilles! : So I’ve... - Couch to 5K

The first advice is to rest it, take an extra day off and see how you get on, take care. Rfc x
The exact same thing has happened to me it is so frustrating as I’m in my 3rd week of consolidation runs but I know I really need to rest it. My knee is painful too so like you I could do with any advice. Hope you get better soon xxx
It’s so annoying isn’t it?! Do you know what caused yours? I think I ran too fast yesterday. Without really trying I’ve been getting faster on each run but maybe yesterday was too much? My ankles felt stiff when I first started too but they were ok after 5 minutes. I’m thinking of going for a gait analysis now that I’m running consistently for 30 minutes. I have to admit that I’ve been wearing v cheap trainers until now! 😬 I really can’t afford the decent ones though which is what’s putting me off from going I think.
It is annoying I’ve got to admit I’m feeling fed up I can’t go for my run today because it makes me feel good in so many ways apart from my knee and my ankle. I don’t know what mine is I’ve been sticking to the 30min runs, walking for 5 mins at the start and 5 mins after then doing my stretches after. I’ve had my gait analysis done and bought the trainers they advised. I just hope a weeks rest will help. I will maybe start at 20 min runs again and build up again. Good luck and let me know how you get on.
Hiya, the best advice is to rest it. It's possible to get slightly over confident and carried away with the new found running life and to try to do a little too much too soon, not over the top Mo Farrah too much of course but more than really necessary !You'll find that your pace will increase naturally the more you run over time.
I had a minor Achilles tendon 'tweak' at the end of last year which I rested for a week or two then tentatively got back into it. I also got hold of some compression socks which were a great help to aid recovery.
Hope that helps and isn't repeating too much of what's already been said. By the way I lived just off Beech Avenue for ten years and my Grandparents owned Roundwood until 1980!
Thanks for the advice. Was hoping it wouldn’t be too long before I could run again! 😬 What a small world! Are you still local?
No worries, injuries are a pest but if you take it easy then you'll be back in the running shoes soon 👍 I moved to Beccles 10 years ago but I still work in Hellesdon, a couple of my colleagues live near the Otter so we're out that way occasionally ☺
