Hard work after a short break

I’ve been doing graduation runs for the last fortnight and getting on fine, actually finding that I was getting a bit faster. Then I got ill and had bad vertigo caused by an inner ear infection so I couldn’t run for a week. I went out for the first time (in what was by then 10 days) on Thursday and for the first time since starting the program I had to stop running...twice! After the run my legs ached just like after Week 1 too!! I was so shocked that I’d lost it just after 10 days of not running! Feel really apprehensive now about my next run and actually quite sad as I was making real progress! Someone tell me it was just a blip and I’ll get it back again....please! 🙏🏻😬

I had a similar issue after graduating and then stopped running over winter. I made excuses to avoid the initial effort so didn’t get the rewards.

I started back recently and had to go riiiiigggghhhht back and persevere with trying to run for 60 seconds again. I ran very slowly for 32 minutes the other day. I’m back!!! And you can be too! Go for it!

Thanks for your reply. Well done on getting back out there, starting out again can be the hardest part 👍🏻

I went out and managed 30 mins and apparently it was my fastest time yet! Go figure! It was still really hard work though and I’m only covering 4.35km in the 30 minutes, but my main aim is to gradually extend the length of time I run until I reach 5k. Upwards and onwards! 💪🏻
