Toilet Talk 🤦‍♀️

Ok I’m really sorry to ask this but I’m sure others must experience this.

When running does anyone else feel like they start to need the toilet? It’s as if once my heart rate increases my metabolism gets going and I get the urge to go...

So sorry but I need reassurance it not just me 😂

Hmmm - funny you should mention that... are we talking no. 1 or no. 2.

I've been wondering whether I should broach the subject of becoming 'more regular' (no.2's) per day than I have been used to, since starting to run.

I haven't had any - "OMG I've got to go" moments DURING a run, but at home I most certainly have... I will be interested to see other replies on this subject!

Yup, me too! But I’ve made a couple of changes. Now if I’m running in the morning, I know that I’ll need to go, I drink two large cups of tea and let them go through, and that also deals with the other problem! I’ve just had to wait before I can run. Ho hum 😬

I saw a very in-depth post explaining why this on FB in a marathon support group (ut this (an issue that affects more women than men). I'll see if I can find it and post here.

Exercise is good for a lot of things including your digestive system , makes things work more efficiently. You may need to try and go before you run if possible 😊

I had this too for the first few weeks after starting running. Uncomfortable. Had a near disaster one morning. It settled down and went back to normal after a few weeks. I just put it down to my body reacting to such a big change in activity levels. Hope things settle for you too!

This is normal for running. I get up at 7am every Saturday morning and have a couple of coffees so as I can have a no.2 before going to Parkrun. Last Sunday I was out for a run with my Sister and we were doing a nice 28 minute 5K pace. Thankfully we were on a 5K route in the country side. Just as we got to the end of the 4th km I had to pause the run, jump a fence and find a spot in a hedge. It was embarrassing. I’d never been caught out before, but it can happen. I had to abort a couple of runs before because of this, but managed to find a toilet in time. My Sister was buckled over laughing. 😀

Normally I will make sure that I have gone or will be confident that I won’t need to before I go for a run.

Make sure you are well hydrated, but don't drink anything an hour before running only a sip just before runnng maybe, in that hour have loo visits to empty the bladder. As for No 2 try to make sure to do this beforehand.. yes, the running does make us more regular so have to manage it properly..

My established routine after some experimenting now is: get up, have a large cup of coffee with milk, wait a while till the guts truly wake up, take a dump and then only go for a run.
