Postgrad transitioning to outside and loving it

Having completed C25K completely on the treadmill (for various reasons but mostly involving dodgy back and ankles), it was always my intention to transition carefully to outside. I decided to use the C25K structure again, but skipping repeat runs as I'm basically just replicating outside what I can already do inside. I'm still doing longer runs inside to keep the distance stamina up.

Turns out I've picked a lovely time of year to do this - so far I've re-run W1R1, W2R1, W3R1, W4R1, W5R1, W5R2, W5R3, and yesterday decided to go for W6R3 and hear again those lovely words "you are a runner"!! I'm really rather enjoying it, and the last couple of runs took my 18 year old son with me - WALKING beside me! Hmm, I knew I was slow, deliberately so at this stage, but my aim now is definitely to make him break into a trot occasionally!!

Aw, thanks - I'm kinda bending over backwards to make sure I do all this without injuring myself :) Looking forward to doing that "easy 5K" outside before too long ...

I haven't yet braved the transition, maybe I never will. But I do need to give it a try at least one day. Well done to you, sounds like you are making a success of it!

I started out doing one outside rerunning C25K to two inside consolidating 30+ minutes (up to 50+ minutes and 6K on treadmill most recently) but for the last couple of weeks, lovely weather, being away for a week, and kids home from uni have meant I've done more outside. I'm sure I'll still be perfectly happy at the gym on the treadmill, I'm one of the strange souls who enjoy it, but it's nice to have the choice.

I have treadmill at home and I just love it! But I like the sound of your technique so if/when I do try outside running I'll go for this plan.
