Hi all, newbie here. Not an experienced runner but am plodding on as best as I can. Just completed week 2 run 3 but had to stop on the last run due to excruciating pain in my legs and feet. my calves go so tight, particularly my right one and my right foot goes numb. it hurt so much even when walking I was limping! I wore different trainers tonight as thought they would be more supportive but don't think it was a good idea. Does anyone have any advice to how to combat this? I really don't want to have to stop but tonight was so painful. I stretch before and after and have a slow pace. I am carrying some extra weight which I know wont help, but just not sure I can carry on with the pain I felt tonight. Didn't feel as out or breath, just the pain in my legs and feet. Thanks, Kate
Really bad leg and feet pain!: Hi all, newbie... - Couch to 5K
Really bad leg and feet pain!
i am having the same thing feeling very frustrated , i struggling to walk the pains in my knees are so bad
Oh poor you, Miniskinn. I’m a newbie too W3R2, and no expert. But on my first couple of runs I also a numb right foot. I found that loosening the laces of my shoe right across the bridge of my foot helped a lot. Now I’m careful that my shoes are snug, but not pinching. As for the pain in your calf, I don’t know about that, but you’ll find lots of advice on the network from really experienced runners, so have a look through some earlier posts. I expect someone will have some good advice for you soon. All the best.
Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and includes advice on minimising impact.
It sounds like you need medical advice.
Take care.
Do not try and run through pain. It’s there for a reason. I suggest seeing your GP and try to get a physio referral. There’s no rush. We’ll still be here.
Hey Miniskinn, I used have the exact same thing as you and was always in agony during the runs and walks and gave up sooo many times and came home defeated because I couldn't cary on through the pain in my ankles and mainly left leg. I thought it was because I had put on a couple of stones of the years. I was wearing the right running shoes even bought some vibrams because I thought it was just because I had weak ankles and calves. But I found the solution, I was running too fast. Even though I thought I thought I was running slowly, it turned out I wasn't running slowly enough and I could go reallllyyy sllooowww, so much so I was overtaken by people walking and old people taking their dogs on walks. I've used this slow method now and I'm on wk8!
Trust me, when you think you can't go any slower, you can, even if you're just shuffling.
