Shocked ankles

I’ve noticed after running that now I have problems with my ankles. It’s like they have been jarred, are painful and it makes me limp a bit. It’s like they go into a muscle spasm. However next day they are fine generally and as long as I have good rest periods it seems ok. Is it maybe I need gait fitting for trainers?

Yes you are correct the best shoes to suit you would be good also when you are running you should try and land as soft as possible it just takes practice😊

Thx I’ve been focusing on just moving and breathing but I can think about this next. I’ve noticed that I take short strides currently as I have stiff hips and an over curve in my back so that is most comfortable position but that may be why it’s going for my ankles. I’m hoping as my core strength builds that my stride will too!

I’d definatly look at getting your gait analysis for your trainers

Hi there, I note you’re getting to the point in the programme where the runs are a bit full on. I’d definitely advise gait analysis as having good shoes will make the world of difference - just make sure you go to a good reputable store, an independent if you can find one,

Also, I run twice a week, I got to about week 8 and got overuse injuries, I.e, my body did not like the frequency of such high impact exercise, so, I gave myself a break and ran twice a week, since then I have gone on to complete 4 half marathons, remember the programme is a guide, we’re all different,

Running won’t give you core strength, have you tried the strength and flex podcast? That will help , plus doing something like yoga, planks, weights etc., will build your core.

Hope that helps, if it doesn’t settle, make sure you get professional advice,

I like the tips above - I get a similar issue which I've tentatively put down to poor running technique, too much weight and just muscles and joints being used more and in a different way. Wearing some compression socks has helped. Plus I'm trying to be a bit more conscious of how I hit the pavement and am doing more stretching than I did at first. I'm going to do some core strength exercises too. Good luck with finding a solution! I'm sure there is one that will work for you.
