ground to a halt

So after thoroughly enjoying my running and completing week 3, i managed to pick up an attack of tendinitis in my Achilles which is painful and debilitating and has made running out of the question. Even after three weeks rest and recuperation, walking is uncomfortable. Has anyone out there had similar issues and is this something I can overcome or a message that I should take up cycling? Any thoughts welcome.

Aaaw, so sorry you are struggling, maybe it's worth asking for a physiotherapy referral? Good luck and hope it feels better soon, take care.

Cycling is great for minor Achilles tendon problems, as it keeps the joint mobile and improves blood flow without putting excess load on the joint.

My only running injury was a tweak of my Achilles and it took over a month off before I could gently get back to running.

Eccentric heel drops several times each day are great, along with calf stretching.

I have had a minor reminder of my problem recently and find that just stretching my Achilles by flexing my foot up and down when seated has been a great help.

Take your time and if it persists, get advice from a physio.

There are no quick fixes.
