Resting ❤️ Rate

Before I started the C25K my resting heart rate was 61. Gradually during the programme this number got lower and lower - at the time I picked up an injury it was down to 53. Already, a little of three weeks with no running, just long walks, it’s back up to 57. If that is not motivation to get back out there I don’t know what is. 😱

Gosh - that is a surprise! Hopefully your thigh injury is getting better so you can regain the bit of fitness you lost. It will return because you proved what you are capable of the first time round - with more to come in the future. The weather is currently an obstacle for most people - my local parkrun was cancelled today due to snow and ice. I even slipped over yesterday walking on the snow - fortunately no injury!

I hate the cold weather - I am going for a proper run tomorrow so hopefully thigh will hold out - already had two false starts but third time lucky. It’s lovely to see how well you are doing - be careful on the slippery roads ❄️❄️❄️

Bear in mind that your resting heart rate can vary dependent on many variables........time of day, diet and hydration can affect it......a cup of coffee can send it racing, for instance. So your weeks of non running may not have reduced your fitness as much as you think, unless of course you take your readings at the same time of day, every day.

It’s a bit of a mystery to me, this RHR. When I started C25k it was 65. It dropped to a consistent 54 with a low of 53 in week 8. Then I got a virus and it shot back up to 61. I’m still under par, fighting off some sort of infection, having a stressful time at work and it’s currently flitting between 57 - 59. So I think the running has had a real impact, but there are clearly other variables at play!

Or perhaps you just meant... hormones. I saw your comment and read ‘menopause’!

I meant that progesterone levels can raise temperature and hr, so depending on where you are with your cycle, either natural, or on hrt, your hr may be elevated.

I noticed an increase of around 6-8 bpm when I had a fitbit.

That’s interesting. How long would the increase last for?

I used to see a rise for around one week , depends on your cycle, mine being more predictable and almost entirely chemically supported!😂😂😂.

I no longer have a fitbit as it stopped working. So I don't know what my hr is now.

I’m not sure all this information makes us more contented human beings anyway 🙂

Probably not, when I started running mine was mid 60's, then I had quite a few weeks where it was averaging 55-58 which pleased me.

Then I noticed it was 45-48 , I once saw it at 39, that alarmed me!!!!.

I just focus on the runs now😊

I have no idea what my resting heart rate is... but if I'm in cinema or reading my fitbit thinks I'm asleep!!!😂😂

Good luck with the run.
