Anyone with Meniere’s?

Hi all,

I’m a total newbie at running and have just finished night 1 of C25k. I’m feeling great now I’ve got my breath back!

Just wondering if there’s anyone here who has Ménière’s disease and do they find exercise helps keep the spins at bay?

Many thanks

Welcome! I’m almost jealous of all the goodness you’ve got coming your way! I just completed my week 5 today but I wasn’t even thinking of running 6 weeks ago and definitely didn’t think I could make it this far!

I don’t know about how running might affect Meniere’s but I do know there’s all kinds of folks here and I’m almost certain someone can help!

Thank you and congratulations on making it past the half way point! Has it been easy to stick with the plan?

Unbelievably so! As long as you ensure you're running slowly — the most common mistake seems to be running quickly. I did that on my first couple runs and they were just unnecessarily difficult — it was lucky those were so relatively easy, or I may have given up right off the bat. The plan is easy in the sense that it pushes you just enough to feel challenging, but in a way that you're ready for, and one of the best things has been discovering again and again how my runs so far have been more preparation than I realised. Trust the process and go easy on yourself. You'll enjoy this far more than you can imagine, and everyone here is totally going to be cheering you on!

Hello, welcome and well done on your first run.

I've just completed week 1 so we're pretty much newbies together. Good luck.

I suffer with Meniere’s.

I tend to keep it under control with meds when I have a flair up. But I guard against flair ups when Im out and about by always covering my ears when its cold, but particularly when it is blowy.

I know a change in pressure affects me but there is little I can do to rule the weather, other than being mindful. Similarly if I fly anywhere.

I run hot so I have one of those wide head bands that cover the ears, it can be worn under a cap if necessary. It works perfectly for a run. A buff will also do the job.

I wouldnt run if I had a flair up..... just standing up is a challenge.

Good luck with the programme 👍🏼
