Hi I am 61 and currently about to complete week 7! We can do this! 😀
There are several groups for running, where ever you live there will be a running group, no you are not the oldest runner here on C25K to start,. Last year I began C25K 5 weeks before I was 72 and graduated 3 weeks after my 72nd birthday, I am not rhe oldest to graduate, several people older than me have graduated from C25K, the oldest being 83.
Hello, Old is ok when it comes to running. I am approaching 75 and will complete week 7 tomorrow. The trick is to go slowly, as you will hear from everybody. As an oldie your heart rate will not soar as high as it did when you were younger but if you keep the pace down you will complete the program and reap all the benefits anyway. As you progress you will develop confidence in your ability to find a pace that will see you through the run. The program really works and there is no pressure to advance a "week" unless you are ready. Just get the shoes on three times a week (or even try a slightly slower regime of 2 rest days after each run) and off you go.
Hi, I'm 72 and I started in July. I've had my fair share of injuries, nothing serious, pulled muscles, tendonitis of the achilles, etc., probably due to me thinking I was still 17. Follow the advice on here, slow and steady, I am now running at my usual average Nordic walking pace! I have reached W8R3 which I hope to do over the weekend, and hopefully W9 over the next week or so, but if it takes longer, so be it. I Set out to do it and I am determined to finish it, but more importantly, carry on afterwards with park runs etc., and who knows maybe even a 10K. If I can do this so can you!
Hi there, I'm 64 and currently on w4 run 3. After week two i had a problem with my knees which took nearly 2 weeks to get sorted. I finally realised i needed orthotic insoles which work a treat. Then i repeated week two. Also had to give up on w4 R2 the other day as i just ached everywhere so much i couldn't do it! Took three days off, then completed the run today. Greywhiskers is right i think - it makes sense to factor in extra rest days when you feel you could use them. I've realised i need to listen to my body - there's no point in running if it hurts - it will get worse and hold you up. The forum was immensely helpful when i had problems and kept me believing all would be ok..... It seems only natural that we oldies are going to take a little longer than people half our age, but nevertheless it remains doable, and definitely works. You just have to take care of yourself well. It's such an exciting thing to realise you can do something you always - in my case at least! - thought you couldn't. Really good luck with it, it is so worth doing.
