Knee tips

I’ve hurt my knee. Probably because I went mad and ran two days in a row. So now I’m really sad and need to take a few days off til it sorts itself out. I am now R.I.C.E ing. But if anyone had any knee tips to help me I’d appreciate it. I knew if I ran two days in a row I’d probably mess up and I did...should listen to my inner sensible next time.

Thanks for owning up and I will begrudgingly offer commiserations............we don't like setting rules here, nor banging our heads against the wall, but we do offer advice based on received wisdom and the experience of ourselves and others. It is very foolish for any new runner to run on consecutive days for can absolute minimum of six months, but preferably much longer.

There are no quick fixes to injuries. Time and care will see you right

Take care.

Okay without checking the link, what does the M stand for ? Move? 🤔

Mobility.. (keep moving) but use discretion, if in pain then you have to restup, I have minor niggles in my knees (not caused by running probably the work I used to do) but am able to keep running and manage it and keep them moving.

The replies have said it all...lessons learned...heal first and then be sensible!

A salutary lesson. There is another one in the FAQ's which I urge you to read. I hope you get back to running soon (not too soon!) and that you can temper your enthusiasm with a bit of hard-won wisdom! Best wishes.

There’s not much other than strengthening exercises and what you’re already doing. If pain doesn’t subside see a professional and when you do run again go very gently. I always found it best to go walking and on one of those to test it buy running 20 yards slow, then 20 yards fast, then 20 yards uphill and down again, during the walk... stopping that if the knee reacted at any point (the last one is a bigger test of joints) and then go for the run the day after with no expectation other than to stop on pain.

Well done on learning the importance of rest days, even if it was the hard way, patience is the key, you can run most days eventually, but not for about a year.
