Strava, like all GPS tracking apps is as accurate as the device it is running on. Dedicated running watches tend to have better GPS units than phones,but even they occasionally give erratic results. People change apps because of odd results, but would probably be better off changing their phones.

I use map my run and Strava on my runs and they give different results for the same run. My last run according to map my run was 4.67k and 4.5 k according to Strava. So allowing for the second decimal place which isn't measured on Strava, they are different by 100 m which isn't really much.

Strava and Samsung Health running in the background always give different results on my phone. Samsung says I have run further and faster every time. I ignore it and stick with Strava. I think just pick an app and stick with it then you are comparing like with like. In over a year of using Strava on my phone it's only done a weird thing once which resulted in a fantastic 5k PB!
