No, you’re not a lost cause... I believe people 25 years older have done this, maybe more.
All you have to do is read the guide (you’ll get a link real soon) and be willing to work, and run nice and slow as you get though this. You can do this.
For years I said running wasn't my thing … told myself I was the wrong shape, would just pick up injuries, would hate running on roads, not got enough time, etc, etc.
I'm now ending week 7 of C25K. And I do genuinely feel quite transformed. And a little bit addicted! I started out with the objective of getting fitter. Now, I run because I love how it makes me feel, and the undoubted improvements in fitness are a spin off benefit.
The fact you're on here shows a lot of interest and is a great starting point! That's enough to get going.
I only started running 8 weeks ago and I couldn't run the length of myself at the start but the app really breaks it down in small chunks to build progress. Trust it!
My advice is perhaps pick an area that is quiet so u can build up your confidence and get a feel for how you're coping.
Ps Don't be self conscious as most of the people driving past etc would love to have the motivation to go running!
good luck !c25k really does work. Don’t worry if you have to repeat a week (or 2 like I did). I cursed up a blue streak 3 times a week for 11 weeks, now I get grumpy when I can’t run!
One thing to look out for.. others on the forum have mentioned this too.. your weight may stay the same, but your clothes size may well decrease.
All I can say is Go For It.... it will be the best thing you ever do. I started C25K 8 weeks ago. I've dropped just over a stone on Slimming World in the last year but finding it difficult to lose now cos of my job in a Call Centre sitting for hours on end. I'm a proper foodie, I love the odd pint or 3 but was getting out of breath going upstairs. Like you, I thought it was time to get healthy and stumbled across C25K by accident. Best accident I've had. Had a blip in week 4/5 with aches and pains but overcome these. I've done W6r3 tonight.... 25 mins nonstop. Best run I've had. When I think back to W1r1 I thought I was going to die and almost threw up half way through, never in a million years did I think I'd make it this far but I have. I even managed to drag the hubby with me and we've supported and encouraged each other along the way. I've had great advice from this forum and check in every day. If I can do it, 52 (nearly 53) year old, anyone can. Good luck on your journey. Stay positive, you CAN do it 🏃
Hi congratulations for making the change. I decided much like you “ I must do something “ so started C25K four weeks ago. Sort of took the advice given but not completely so ended up injured for two weeks. Lesson learned. Physio and pain killers!! Get good shoes take it slowly until you are ready and listen to your body. If it resists gently nudge but if it doesn’t like it listen and rest. I am walking this week no grumbles so far so hope to restart W1R1 next week.Good luck it won’t be easy but got to be worth it👌
You ARE able! What a gift you've given yourself!! Take it slow and steady and you will get through it. It IS a challenge but the decision is a huge part of the whole success.
I love food too and i sat on xweight for a while too so c25k was a godsend. I didn't expect much as i've always hated running but i am now hooked, loving it and so much fitter it's not funny!
You will feel better about yourself and that is fuel for each next run!
