Too much Tech just slowed up the start!

β€’8 Replies

I decided to set Strava up to follow my W8R1 today. With my C25k app, my music and fiddling about trying to co-ordinate them all starting together and keeping hold of the dog I got in flap and decided it was hindering me actually getting moving πŸ™ˆ

I don't need the stats, just the motivation to move and I've got that!

Along the same line, I'm staying off the scales. I don't care about the numbers really, I just know I feel better and my shape is changing. πŸ˜€

My husband loves all the stats to compare when he cycles πŸš΄πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ but I'm not going to get competitive about it, just keep going week to week and enjoy the progression πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈ

Bit of an oversight in Strava that it doesn’t control music, unless I’m missing something. I used the Nike app in the just run weeks as it had compatibility with C25K in its guided runs having 25, 28 and 30 minute versions. It can also be set for a semi silent run of any distance/time with customisation on pace updates (including end only) and can control Apple Music or Spotify... so I was one tap and away after a warmup. (Other apps available may do it all to)

I’m a hater of Strava segments, certainly in running, as chasing those times every run causes injuries.

Hmm, this sounds like an app to check out. Linking to music and no updates unless you want them sounds good to me.

Well today on my final ever C25K I forgot to switch on my strava app, but remembered the music which probably wouldn't have happened with Nike, so am going to switch!

I love your attitude OverTheFields! Just go for it! Maybe once you've graduated and you're dealing with one less app it might be easier to coordinate. :) Another option if you don't need the additional coaching from the c25k app is to just set a timer for the day's length of run after you've done your 5 minute warm up.

I've been there flapping around with apps, but without the dog! I have trimmed mine down now and dropped mapmyrun, still have Spotify, c25k and strava though. Although having read UnfitNoMore's comment about Nike app I may well look into it!

I'm starting to think that the less tech the better. For me, at least. I'm really looking forward to running without earphones (though I know I will be an emotional wreck at the end of my final W9R3 run with Laura). After a tough run this week when I did decide to look at distance and pace, I think I'm better off just not knowing! You know a good run by how it feels, and that's going to be my gauge from now on. I just want running to make me feel good … and to hell with pace/cadence/distance. Maybe my mind set will change later, who knows.

I agree too much faf for me too. Well done on your running x
