W9r2 stupid running apps

Well map my run still wasn’t working so tried Runkeeper again today which said I didn’t move off the spot for 30 mins! I know I ran for half an hour thanks to mj telling me but it’s hard to say how far. Judging by old runs I’d say I managed 5k but I’d like to get an accurate reading. I’m going to delete the apps and reinstall them, hopefully that’ll work. If anyone else has any ideas let me know. I run left till graduation 🎓🤩

Good stuff... best get that GPS working for graduation.

It’s unlikely to be the app as you’ve had two fail you, and GPS is a function of the device that the app just reads. I know you’re not on Strava, but they have a support page for troubleshooting gps issues.

Without sounding stupid, how do I check the gps?

Should be a setting to turn it off and on again... If I read it right shut down any sat nav apps fully. And the GPS status app it mentions is handy too.

I had a few issues with both runkeeper and strava until I sussed out the GPS issue. Now I open the app before I even lace up my shoes and when I’ve been walking for 5 minutes it has usually homed in on a decent signal. So ready to start running.

But I always keep the screen visible and check after a minute or so to see it is recording. I too have done nearly 5k in 40 minutes to find I’d gone nowhere on the app - I know just how frustrating that was, so I determined to get it sussed.

Hope this helps

Thanks barbie, yes it is frustrating. Hopefully I can sort the god out and start recording the runs again 😄

Hi Run, must be so frustrating when that happens, so far I've had no problems with Map my Run but probably tempting fate now! I'm doing W9R2 tomorrow morning hopefully nice and early and as on Sunday I'm just going to aim at just completing the 30 minutes and then it's the big one on Thursday and a 30 minutes 5k is my target! he says bravely. 😉

You’ll smash it hatter, if needs be try and just increase for the last minute and you’ll defo make the 5k!

Some of these apps can be very frustrating. I deleted Runtastic because it let me down a couple of times.

To check your GPS is working, open Google Maps and it should show your location. Search for a destination nearby and hit 'directions' and start and then follow the route it shows you and you should see your location moving.

I suspect your phone may have a power saving setting which stops apps working in background, so check your battery settings and turn off the power saving mode and try again. Hope that helps. Good luck!

I think my 5k time the other day was 30.28 so I need to knock 30 seconds off that time, it's a big ask but I think I can do it certainly in the next 2 or 3 weeks. No need for Mo Farah to start panicking yet!

Hello, as I wrote earlier, good app is mapy.cz in my opinion.

It has offline maps, various fun activities, route record, route length, speed, altitude profile, navigation (for car too..), all for free and in multiple languages. Possibility to save the route to a "bag", comment, share... etc. :-)
