I'm having a bit of a sore legs nightmare....I usually go for my runs about every 3 days...I find I need that amount of recovery time, and it's been fine before. But now, every time I go out, despite warming up and stretching, my legs are really hurting by the time I'm done. I'm still doing 30 mins, around 3.65km in that time, so not that quick....had a gait analysis done, got some insoles to help with my over probation...and it seems to be worse since I got them? Do I take them out? Go back to my old insoles? I just don't know...I need new running shoes....but now I'm not confident that I will get the right ones, and not just hurt myself!? .....ooooh, help?!?

Okay, I'll definitely put my old insoles in for my next run, I didn't realise running shops might exchange shoes if they're not right so I'll ask about that....and yeah, I did it! At one point my hubby said something along the lines of " walk then, if it hurts!" I heard myself saying "never!" And just kept on going, not knowing whether I was making things worse.....or not!π
Every runner is recommended to have run free week every few months.
Maybe it is nothing to do with running and is a symptom of some other health issue.
When I get new shoes I alternate runs in them with old shoes, breaking in my shoes and my body to the change of support. Maybe you should do that with your insoles.
I don't know anything about running shoes but I wear arch support insoles all the time (in my normal shoes) because I was advised to do so by a physio to help with some longterm knee issues. Just my experience but when I started wearing them (and to a lesser extent every time I swap them in with a new pair) they do feel weird and uncomfortable for a little while, as your joints adjust to the new position. For me that wore off after a while and they have helped massively. Was just thinking if you have only recently started using insoles, and especially if you're only wearing them for running every few days and wearing normal shoes the rest of the time, it might just take a while to really adjust /bed them in. Anyway just thought I would share my experience, hope things improve and you find the right fit for you!
Hi Emily and thank you, I too wear arch support in my normal shoes....I'm wondering if it's too much if a contrast with my new insoles....although they do have arch support too. I'm going to have a week off running and do some core strength training maybe go see my wise yoga buddy too!π
Ahh, telling you things you already know then Well I hope things improve for you - I sympathise with how stressful it is knowing what the right thing is when it comes to expensive investments like shoes - I need to go get a gait analysis/some proper shoes at some point and I'm dreading it
Hi Sonia, Iβd definitely go back to your running shop and tell them about the problems youβre having. Those new insoles sound like theyβre to blame. Maybe your natural running stride has been altered too much for your legs to handle. Iβm assuming the pain wasnβt there with your old ones? Anyway, see what they say! π
Good for you for continuing with your runs regardless though! Stubborn runnerβs mind! πππββοΈπββοΈ
