Running shoes

Hi. I’m on w6r2 .. ran last nite and my legs are killing me it’s probably the walking bit and having to run again that’s not helped.. but I’m using a pair of Skechers trainers which are well padded . just wandering if anyone is wearing the same trainers ? And if they feel really sore after longer runs? Thanks

I really suffered in W1/W2 of C25K - best advice I had was to go to a proper running shop and get them to video your running on a machine. They recommended me some trainers specifically for my running style (overpronation), and I went and bought them online - saving a few quid.

It was the best move I made, the pain went away after a couple more runs and I was able to progress.

Incidentally - mine were Asics shoes, designed to give extra support & stability. Really did the trick.

Skechers supposedly have some good running shoes out, being on w6 you really need to have dedicated running shoes now.

Are you stretching well after your runs? And taking it slow n steady...

Thanks guys .. yh I take it steady but am on tarmac most the time .. I do yoga warm ups and cool downs which are really good ... think I should get some proper running shoes now.. know ASICS are known to be good

A lot of running shoe brands are known to be good, but at the end of the day it depends on what brand suits you best when fitting..we are all different...

I went to a running shop and they filmed me running on a treadmill to assess your gait. They can then help you with the right running shoes. I’ve done my last week 8 and first week 9 run in them and can certainly tell the difference in how they support my feet. The brand I got are called ON and although I’ve not heard of them before was reliably informed they are a good brand. I also tried ASICS saucony and a couple of other brands but found these ones to be the most comfortable for me.

My calves stopped screaming after the gait test and new trainers in week 7. The first run in them was hard though. Now my calves just yell.

Have any of you guys been charged for a gait analysis? Just read shops can charge £15 if you don’t buy thier shoes ..

No they didn’t charge me. I went to a runners need store in London. They were all super human specimens but were really kind, apparently they learn about this program and how to support (be kind) to new runners. I dreaded it but they made it okay.

I completed c25k in what I believed were my trusty old ASICS, it turned out that they were what was causing my calf pain. After much advice from here, I had gait analysis at a local running shop and purchased a pair of ON running trainers. I’m still taking it slow where they are new but... the calf pain has almost entirely gone.

That’s really helpful thanks spinno
