I would say try and stick to roads/paths where possible . Although it’s a harder surface it’s likely more consistent... it’s rare for any grass to be completely flat, there will always be lumps and divots that could do you in.

Running on grass is hard!
I must be odd then as I prefer running on grass, gnarly root infested paths and narrow, lumpy tracks. I quite like the challenge of dodging and leaping things and I prefer to be out in the countryside. I avoid tarmac where possible. Too hard on my poor old knees.
